2013 was a year to be remembered for many reasons and not all of them were bad, but not all of them were good. So today I am going to skip around to a multitude of subjects which happened to pop into my head earlier today and as I am writing this year end piece.



TOUGH!!!! Was anyone other than Colorado Governor Hickengoofy and N.Y. Mayor Bloomberg surprised at this? Texans damn sure weren’t.

Once again, the victim in this particular case happened to be an elderly black man so the Obama/Holder Justice Department got right on top of that one. Forget about the multiple white men and women whom we have seen knocked unconscious by black gang members. That does not meet the top notch standards set by Holder and his band of merry men.

Just listen to this OBJECTIVE reporting on the death of a really smart and talented man, Mikhail Kalashnikov.

“Mikhail Kalashnikov started out wanting to make farm equipment, but the harvest he reaped was one of blood as the designer of the AK-47 assault, the world’s most popular firearm.” The article went on to describe the circumstances which prompted this Russian Soldier to design the famous weapon. Then they went on to point out: Made his name as well-known for bloodshed as Smith, Wesson and Colt. It is fairly obvious to me that the Associated Press writer of this article knows about as much about Mikhail Kalashnikov and the AK-47 and Mr. Smith and Mr. Wesson and Mr. Colt and you might as well add in Mr. Bill Ruger, as the Clintons know about telling the truth.

In the past I have personally owned an AK-47 which was a commercially made weapon from one of the European countries. It was a ton of fun to shoot and I never once shed any human being’s blood with that weapon. I will venture to say that I probably shot between 2,000 & 3,000 .223 rounds through that rifle. I found someone who wanted it much more than I and let it go. I wish I had it back now.

Additionally I have seen any number of programs on which Mr. Kalashnikov was interviewed and he appeared to be a very smart and talented person. Not once, did I get the feeling that he approved of the killing of innocent people. I held him in higher regard than I do 90% of the elected people at the national level.
In today’s edition of the (Sub) Standard Times they devoted one entire page to cover what some other Associated Press mutt viewed as the TOP STORIES OF 2013!

I’m certainly not going to go through all of them but I will mention a few.

His #1 event was the HEALTH CARE OVERHAUL …. I would imagine that this particular story has been on everyone’s mind for a good while and I would probably agree that the government’s handling of this mess was pretty well described by Clint Eastwood in “Heartbreak Ridge”… he called it a ‘CLUSTER something or other. What really gets my rear end as red as a three ball is when the liberal media and the Obama flunkies call what happened with their WEBSITE “A Glitch”. Calling this fiasco a “Glitch” is equal to calling the Battle of Gettysburg a “Skirmish”.

His #2 event was the BOSTON BOMBING. I am not too sure I wouldn’t have had that as #1 but it is a close call. But of course the Obama Administration is still more interested in having this viewed as a “Crime” rather than a “Muslim instigated Terrorist Attack”.

At #4 we have his choice as A DIVIDED CONGRESS. This is news? Hell, I thought that Congress has been divided for a long time. OH! But I forgot, the Establishment Republicans and the Establishment Democrats/Progressives/Socialists/Marxists are interchangeable. Where the real divide is can be found in the Republican Party with the real conservatives refusing to COMPROMISE with the “Usual Suspects”.

Sprinkled throughout this article he mentioned the deaths of many famous people and a few of them were worth the trouble in my view: Stan Musial; Margaret Thatcher; Annette Funicello; and former N.Y. Mayor Ed Koch………… BUT JIM!!!!… You forgot to mention Nelson Mandela……… A most perceptive observation. I figure we had the story of his death and funeral and all the rest stuffed down our throats or perhaps stuffed somewhere else till I am tired of the subject.

First of all….. THERE ARE TOO DAMN MANY BOWL GAMES! I saw one the other day… can’t remember which one it was, but there were a couple of 6 and 6 teams playing. Then of course during the game some idiot announcer or color man will say, “Let’s go down to the sidelines and see what Brittany has for us.” First of all, I don’t give a damn what Brittany has for us. She will more often than not be asking a Coach, who had rather be in the dressing room with his team, some meaningless question to which the coach will generally say, “We will have to start executing better”, or some other stock answer. Why is it that these television networks feel like political correctness must always come first.

Then, what I really like at half-time, when I should be watching the “Fightin’ Texas Aggie Marching Band” perform, I get treated to at least three and sometimes four experts there to tell us all just exactly what it was that we just got through watching. Then prior to getting back to the game we have to be subjected to Brittany interviewing the other coach who escaped her at the beginning of half-time get to tell her about doing a better job of executing their offense or doing a better job of tackling on defense.
BUT, I will tell you what there isn’t too much of on TV. And that would be the Texas High School Football Championships in which the top two playoff teams from two divisions in each class (and there are 5 classes in Texas other than Six Man) for a total of 10… yes X ….. TEN …. DIEZ …. total Championship Games played over a three day period.

This year I watched every minute of every game and saw some of the best football talent in the nation. I watched Aledo in Class 4A set an all time national scoring record of over 1,000 points. Never had been done in the past. I also watched the Class 5A – Division I Championship draw over 54,000 people for that game which was also a national high school record.

BUT, as usual some of the best games were in Class 2A where Cisco beat Refugio in a heck of a game. Cisco had one young man who played both ways and on special teams and there was absolutely NOTHING a player could do on a football field at which this young man did not excel. Argyle (Class 3A) also had a young man with the same kind of talent. One play he would line up as a receiver; one play as a running back; one play as a quarterback; and additionally he was a great punter and a great kick return specialist. He is going to Texas Tech.

It was the best three days of the football season. The Super Bowl can’t compare to these young men who still are playing for the right reasons…. because they love the sport.

Although, I must admit that I do enjoy watching Peyton Manning play. He is absolutely amazing and I believe this year has set or helped set 3 NFL Records. Touchdown Passes (I believe he ended up with 55) Passing Yards (I believe it was 5,477 yds.) and of course under his direction the Denver Broncos broke the NFL team scoring record.

The college season was also pretty much fun but I did feel sorry for Mack Brown in his final game as the coach of the University of Texas was soundly beaten by a damn good Oregon team. I still think Mack Brown was/is a class act.

After the game the handlers had one hell of a time getting BEVO, the University of Texas Mascot, loaded into his trailer. For those who are unaware, BEVO is a 2,100 pound Texas Longhorn and he can go pretty much when and where he wants. Good lookin’ Animal.
A lot of other stuff crept into my mind as I was typing but I will address that next year.
I want to than all of you for your kind wishes and greeting cards this Christmas.
Since our family is all located in Colorado and too far away for a Christmas visit, we had two young S. Korean girls over for the day and had a really good time. We did get to talk to our daughter and all of our grandkids and a couple of great grandkids over the Christmas Holiday and that is always nice.
I hope you all have a HAPPY NEW YEAR and let us all PRAY that 2014 will bring some improvements over this past year.
ALSO, I would like to add that ONLY LARRY LILLY and FRED JENKINS, two old Hobbs P.D. friends were the ONLY PEOPLE WHO WERE KIND ENOUGH TO REMEMBER ME AT THE BEGINNING OF KWANZAA! And that should tell you all you need to know about Larry and Fred.
