There is no more ardent supporter of “Off Shore Drilling†than I because I see the tremendous benefits for the country as a whole. OSD will guarantee the country a continuous supply of energy for the foreseeable future, trillions of dollars in royalty income and create a million new jobs.
BUT the road to “Off Shore Drilling†does not lead to success through passing Cap and Trade legislation. The benefits from OSD would nowhere near compensate the enormous tax increases that Cap and Trade would inflict upon the nation. A Heritage Foundation analysis found that net job losses in 2012 could approach 1.9 million.
Only a fool would buy into the deal that Obama purposed last week as the President set the mouse trap with cheese for gullible RINO’s to take a bite of the bait.
As always the Devil is in the details. Part of the administration’s proposal is that it cancels some lease sales that were already pending: At the same time, he’s rejecting some new drilling sites that had been planned in Alaska and potentially years-long waits before new drilling along the East Coast.
We should never forget that our Marxist-in-Chief is a man who previously promised to make the cost of energy skyrocket. When BO offers you a crumb with one hand, his other hand is usually in your pocket.
Here is a statement from GOP Leader: John Boehner:
Obama Administration’s Decision Keeps Vast Majority of America’s Offshore Energy Resources Off Limits
“Keeping the Pacific Coast and Alaska, as well as the most promising resources off the Gulf of Mexico, under lock and key makes no sense at a time when gasoline prices are rising and Americans are asking ‘Where are the jobs?’â€
“At the same time the White House makes today’s announcement, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is plotting a new massive job-killer that the American people can’t afford: a cascade of new EPA regulations that will punish every American who dares to flip on a light switch, drive a car, or buy an American product. Americans simply don’t want this backdoor national energy tax that will drive up energy and manufacturing costs and destroy jobs in our states and local communities.â€
There is no doubt as to what is going on here as it is purely a political move. (1) As gas prices rise, BO will blame big oil as pure evil and have Henry Waxman hold hearings in Congress to demonize them and when the mood is right, look for nationalizing of the energy industry. (2) This is being done to sucker some Republican RINO rats into supporting the “new” Cap and Trade bill.
It doesn’t take much imagination as to which one of the RINO’s will take a bite of the forbidden cheese, Enter Front and Center: Sen. Lindsay Graham.
