Duke Lacrosse Resurgence by MM

My new favorite shirt is a Duke Lacrosse t-shirt, royal blue with white letters, a birthday gift from my son Jeff.

When Duke played Butler in the 2006 season opener, before the big nonevent didn’t occur, only 425 people showed up to watch the game. Of course, the season was cancelled the next month without due process and with no evidence of wrongdoing (April 5) by hyperactive leftwing school President Bob Brodhead, reacting to political pressure.

The lacrosse team had been “fonged” by corrupt District Attorney Mike Nifong, attempting to be re-elected and egged on by his crowd of correctness creeps and media left windbags. Brodhead has yet to apologize for his idiotic actions.

The next season opener in 2007 saw the 425 number quickly exceeded by the time the gates opened. By game time the crowd had grown to 6,485, only a few hundred fans short of Duke’s home record lacrosse attendance.

Duke, then ranked sixth nationally (they were ranked #1 when Brodhead shut them down a year earlier) defeated Dartmouth 17-11. For the first time at a Duke Lacrosse game, the pep band played for the crowd. Lacrosse, a fine sport, is now big time at Duke, attaining fame in a roundabout way. The lawsuits by the aggrieved players continue. Good for them.
