The Absurd Report

Detroit is a stark statement on the failure of urban liberalism.

As the sub-title in your Post column on Detroit correctly asserts: “Liberalism killed a city”. As with almost all major metropolitan areas, Mayor Kwami Kilpatrick’s alleged felonious behavior is then merely the icing on this particular, toxic, urban cake.

The black urban “culture” now celebrates incivility, ignorance, indecency, immorality and too often, criminality. Among the by-products of this are the fact that only one of 3 Detroit kids entering high school, will actually finish. Imagine the social impact of these drop-outs in an already, horribly blighted area, where decent jobs are almost nonexistent.

And 95% of Detroit’s teenage [under 20] mothers are single, and likely to remain so. Tragically, even after examining their plight, almost none of these mothers will conclude, that they should not have more children. Incidentally, it is far too common that minor girls have been impregnated [raped] by an adult man, and often more than once. This epidemic goes on without even a suggestion that this irresponsible, usually illegal behavior carries the slightest consequences.

On the overall, 72% of all children born in Detroit, will have neither the financial nor social support provided by a male in the household. Again, how does any community cope with such moral devastation?

Introspection is a characteristic rarely found within black leadership ranks. This is demonstrated by the endless nihilistic spewings emanating from the Detroit Mayor’s office, the pulpit of Rev. Wright’s Trinity United Church, the Sharptons and Jacksons, the Black Congressional Caucus, or even the shabby, deceitful campaign propaganda of the exalted Sen. Obama.

Instead of recognizing the essence of the moral malignancy over which they preside, and the real architects of the black calamity; the Left and their media acolytes instead resort to blaming the well-intentioned, who have underwritten the creation of these dangerous urban plantations, or they seek to distract with fantasies over some idyllic, Afro-centric utopia, within which it must be presumed; personal responsibility will be verboten. If one truly desires to drive urban black America into even deeper crisis, [if that's possible], the best possible way is to continue to listen to the acrimonious distortions of those who have led us into the existing abyss. These people have done more damage to African-Americans than 10,000 “Bull” Connors, or Klan Kleagles.

One final note on “Liberalism” killing these cities. That’s certainly inarguable, but a Government which has done little more, than sign the checks, and sit in as a spectator at this catastrophic dissolution, is hardly better than the active participants.
