Mark Twain’s Criminal Class: Congress

There is something about Mark Twain’s humor that reaches beyond the boundaries of time and this one especially resonates loud and clear when Twain once said…

“It could probably be shown by facts and figures that there is no distinctly native American criminal class except Congress.”

Twain’s quip was a hundred years ago (1897) but nothing could be more apropos to describe the current reality of what is going on today in Congress.

If they where executives of private corporations and acted in such a manner many of them would be behind bars but since they write the laws, members of Congress are protected from the consequences of actions. We the People have only one recourse available to us and that is to throw the bums out come election time.

It is hard to define what are Criminal Class is doing today in any other way than to call it criminal. They have taken it upon themselves to ignore the limited powers vested in the Legislative Branch by the Constitution and have proceeded to grant upon themselves such self-serving Rights that do not exist.

It is under the jurisdiction of the House to write the laws that we are governed by and the Constitution provides that both bodies of the Legislature (House and Senate) must agree upon said legislation before it is presented to the President to sign into law.

But under the law, “Willful misconduct,” a criminal offense, is legally defined as “intentionally doing that which should not be done or intentionally failing to do that which should be done, when knowing that injury to a person will probably result, or recklessly disregarding the possibility that injury to a person may result.”

If that be the case then when Congress fails to act in the case of a clear and present danger such as possible acts of terrorism on the homeland, is it not a reckless disregard to the safety of the citizens herein by not to passing some version of the FISA Law? The country sits here today without any authorization to combat terrorism.

Congress has “Willfully” obstructed the supply of oil and oil products by not allowing drilling in the North Slope of Alaska, and in many U.S. offshore coastal and on the continental shelf. Politicians have stopped construction of proposed new refineries. Beyond the economic hardship that these actions have had upon the economy, oil is a key commodity needed for our National Defense. Is that not one of the primary functions of the Federal Government?

Additionally, Congress has no authority under the Constitution to lawfully confiscate the lawful earnings of individuals to the alleged benefit of others or better known as entitlements and the legalized redistribution of wealth.

Here is Article Section 8 of the United States Constitution which explicitly sets forth the powers given to Congress.

You can read it, re-read it and read it again and you will never find any powers given to Congress to create and run… government Heath Care for all, establish a retirement account for all citizens (Social Security), confiscate a portion of individuals wages in FICA Taxes and spend said funds on anything and everything but Social Security payments, government involvement is our school systems and on and on.

All of the above are direct violations of the Constitution (The Law of the Land) and no one is above the law.

With that said, “How long will We the People allow this criminal misconduct to go on?”

There’s a measure introduced in every Congress since 1995, by Rep. John Shadegg, R-Ariz., called The Enumerated Powers Act that would require that all bills introduced in the U.S. Congress include a statement setting forth the specific constitutional authority under which the law is being enacted.

The Enumerated Powers Act currently has 44 co-sponsors in the House. In the Senate, it has never had a single co-sponsor, and that’s a Senate that includes our three presidential aspirants. The question one might ask is why would Sens. Obama, Clinton and McCain have a distaste for, and fail to support, a measure binding them to what the Constitution actually permits? - Walter E. I’m wondering how many of those 44 co-sponsors in the House on on the Council of Foreign Relations or the Trilateral Commission? This would effectively gut their control of the US and it’s deep pockets, rendering the Federal Reserve Bank illegal. I’d be all for it.
