First Glance At The Exits: Democratic Party Cracking Up?
Here’s what jumps out at me from the first wave of exit polls that have been released to the Edison-Mitsofky consortium:
Forget the horse race numbers for a moment: if the surveys are accurate, the polarization within the Democratic Party has reached critical levels. Nearly six in ten Obama supporters in Indiana say they would be dissatisfied if Clinton were the nominee — that’s (I believe) the high percentage of Obama supporters who have ever said that.
In both IN and NC, two thirds of Clinton supporters say they’d be dissatisfied if Obama were the nominee — I believe that’s the highest number recorded for that question, too.
The percentage of Clinton voters who say they’d choose McCain over Obama in a general election is approaching 40% in Indiana. Put it another way: in North Carolina, less than HALF of folks who voted today for Hillary Clinton are ready to say today that they’d definitely vote for Obama in a general election.
The basic demographic breakdowns suggest that the black/white split has widened as well (although I can’t say too much about that now), which might mean that racial polarization (along with SES polarization) is driving the Democratic race to an unprecedented degree.

You know who’s really telling the story of who Obama is all about? Michelle Obama. While Barack disavows Wright and walks the tightrope, Michelle keeps opening her mouth and removing all doubt. She is insulting America and Americans. With every public speech she gives she shows just what the Obamas absorbed sitting in that “Church” listening to Wright for 20 years. You know, over the past month, between being working class, white, “old”, female, and a resident of the so-called rust belt, I have received more nasty insults than I ever would have believed possible - from what I thought was my own party. I am told I am not wanted there anymore, because there is a “new” kind of politics - one that is about “change”, and that apparently means confronting what is wrong with….Democrats?This isn’t a party split. Per AP, half of registered Democrats in Indiana said Rev. Wright’s comments were a factor in their vote. 70% of those voted for Clinton.

Which presents al-AP and the rest of the MSM with a major headache. Up until now, the official line of the media overlords is that Rev. Wright is nothing more than a GOP-manufactured Distraction from the Real Issues of Change and Hope. ABC News says that based on exit polling it is calling the North Carolina primary for Senator Barack Obama — amid increasing signs that the Democratic party may be gravely split so many Democrats will stay home in November whether Obama gets the Presidential nomination or his rival, Senator Hillary Clinton.
