Stalinists, Nazis and Pol Pot. By the Bear

I sure most of you remember Senator Durbin’s charges from a year ago whereby he compared the prisoner interrogations at Guantanamo Bay to the abuses and atrocities committed by Stalinists, Nazis and Pol Pot who exterminated millions of people.
Here is what he has to say today after returning form a trip to Gitmo.
Durbin at Guantanamo
The Pentagon took an extra security precaution for Monday’s trip to the Guantanamo detention center by Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.), a strong critic of the prison: It made sure Durbin brought along a Republican.
Durbin toured the U.S. military prison in Guantanamo Bay with Sen. George Allen (R-Va.).
Durbin toured everywhere, even to areas not mapped out in advance. He visited the camp where inmates recently committed suicide. He talked to interrogators and observed a prisoner being interrogated.
Durbin was accompanied by Adm. Harry Harris, the base commander. Durbin told CNN’s Wolf Blitzer that the tour was eye-opening: “We were given access to the entire camp facility. I think it was one of the first tours that saw everything, and I want to salute Adm. Harris, who I think is doing a great job with the soldiers and sailors at Guantanamo (under) very trying conditions.”
Durbin observed the interrogation via a camera, so the prisoners did not know anyone was watching. “It was much different than you might imagine. A relationship had been developed between the interrogator and the translator. The interrogator sat down, opened a bag, handed the detainee a Subway sandwich. He lit up and started eating the sandwich and started talking. It was a much different circumstance than most people would imagine.”

SideBear: Senator Dick Durbin as the Democratic no. 2 man in the United States Senate holds one of the highest elected positions in the United States government. One would think that given the responsibility of that office even a man of average intelligence would exercise restraint out of the respect for the office bestowed upon him.
Given the serious nature of the War on Terrorism and the profound impact and the magnitude his statement would have on subject war, Senator Durbin showed a serious lack of common sense. His statement of comparing Stalinists, Nazis and Pol Pot to interrogations at Gitmo is one that even a man of below average intelligence would question the comparison.
A man of integrity seeking the truth would have made this trip a year ago before he made such charges.
But what we the people get is man of below average intellect who took to the Senate floor with an anonymous e-mail from a supposed ex-FBI agent and made some of the most outrageous charges every made against the American Military.
The loftiness of his office does not fit a man who has proven time and again to be nothing more than a partisan hack. For his future benefit we suggest the Senator go to Snopes.com to check his anonymous e-mails.
