MEMORIAL DAY AND IRAQ COVERAGE By Neal Boortz

Yesterday was Memorial Day, a day we are supposed to honor all of the men and women who gave their lives to this country and to the cause of freedom while serving in the uniforms of our armed services. I spent quite a lot of time watching the coverage on all of the broadcast and cable channels … and this coverage seemed to have one constant theme. One way to honor the lives of these people would have been to show some of what they have accomplished in Afghanistan and in Iraq. Instead our media concentrated wholly on death and mayhem. Explosions, car bombs, suicide bombers, attacks on our military, the deaths and injuries sustained by reporters … just a constant drumbeat of negativism from the Middle East. The charges that U.S. Marines killed civilians in Iraq was featured prominently. Congressman Jack Murtha, who has called our Marines cold-blooded killers, was featured as well. Not once did I see any coverage of the positive aspects of these men and women’s service in the war on terror and the effort to bring freedom and a representative, freely elected government to both Iraq and Afghanistan.
Without any positive representation of what is happening in Iraq, the people of this country are simply going to stop supporting this war against the Islamic jihad. Americans are going to once again adopting the Bill Clinton approach, one that says that terrorism is a law enforcement problem that needs to be handled by the police and our courts. We saw how well Clinton’s approach worked on 9/11. It seems we have a short memory. We’re too busy living the good life, watching a doped-up Barry Bonds, an emotionally crippled Paris Hilton, and the parade of emotional wrecks out of Hollywood. The Islamic attack on America was almost five years ago. No credit is given to the efforts of our president and our armed forces to prevent a recurrence. It’s time for bread and circuses again, and Memorial Day was just a Monday off.
