Iraq’s WMD Secreted in Syria, Sada Says BY IRA STOLL

The man who served as the no. 2 official in Saddam Hussein’s air force says Iraq moved weapons of mass destruction into Syria before the war by loading the weapons into civilian aircraft in which the passenger seats were removed.
The Iraqi general, Georges Sada, makes the charges in a new book, “Saddam’s Secrets,” released this week. He detailed the transfers in an interview yesterday with The New York Sun.
“There are weapons of mass destruction gone out from Iraq to Syria, and they must be found and returned to safe hands,” Mr. Sada said. “I am confident they were taken over.”
Mr. Sada’s comments come just more than a month after Israel’s top general during Operation Iraqi Freedom, Moshe Yaalon, told the Sun that Saddam “transferred the chemical agents from Iraq to Syria.”
SideBear: So Mr. Sada said, “Saddam realized, this time, the Americans are coming and he handed over the weapons of mass destruction to the Syrians.”
And this was in June of 2002 and the United States invaded Iraq in the spring of 2003. So what was it that convinced Saddam that Uncle Sam was serious and coming this time? Let’s just back up the calendar to January of 2002.
Saddam got his info from the horse’s mouth, none other than Senator Jay Rockefeller, the Democratic head of the Intelligence Committee. From an earlier post in November…..

“I took a trip by myself in January of 2002 to Saudi Arabia, Jordan and Syria, and I told each of the heads of state that it was my view that George Bush had already made up his mind to go to war against Iraq — that that was a predetermined set course which had taken shape shortly after 9/11.”
While Democrats in Washington are berating the White House for having prewar intelligence wrong, a high-profile U.S. senator, member of the Select Committee on Intelligence, who has a name more internationally recognizable than Richard Cheney’s, tells two putative allies (Saudi Arabia and Jordan) and an enemy who is allied with Saddam Hussein (Syria) that the United States was going to war with Iraq. This is not a prewar intelligence mistake, it is a prewar intelligence giveaway.

This act of run-of-the-mouth treason, whether intentional or unintentional is immaterial, is unforgivable because it has allowed WMDs debate reshape the course of history and needles to say that there are WMDs out there in the hands of a rogue state.
