House Conservatives under attack By the Bear

Excerpts from a Washington Post article:

Several Republicans said they are getting more bricks in the mail — as part of a new grass-roots campaign promoting a fence between the United States and Mexico — than letters or calls supporting Bush and the Senate bill. Most said 80 to 90 percent of feedback coming from constituents last week was in opposition to Bush and the Senate on the citizenship question.

Despite some national polls showing strong support for a comprehensive solution of the sort favored by Bush, nearly every GOP lawmaker interviewed for this article said the House plan to secure the borders and enforce existing immigration laws is unquestionably the safer political stand in his or her district. Many Democrats from vulnerable districts say the same thing, although the Democratic Caucus as a whole is more sympathetic to a Senate-style compromise.

The House GOP lawmakers reject the argument made by the White House and Senate Republicans such as John McCain (Ariz.) that the best long-term political strategy is to craft a compromise that is appealing to many Latinos, the fastest-growing minority group in America. McCain, in an interview, cautioned his House colleagues to more closely examine “voting patterns” and understand the “detrimental” consequences of alienating Hispanics, who make up about 12.5 percent of the U.S. population.

The White House, led by Deputy Chief of Staff Karl Rove, has been lobbying House members to soften their position and expects that more moderate lawmakers would eventually side with Bush.

And Bill Kristol continues the attack on Conservatives in the Weekly Standard by saying …..Y is for Yahoo

SideBear: John McCain and the McCain Republicans have leveled a full fledge assault against Conservative Republicans in the House. And when McCain backs an amnesty bill written by Ted Kennedy you can bet it spells disaster for the average American citizens of this country.

Whatever McCain’s and his elitist Washington Repubocrats reasons are for misrepresenting the American public’s views on immigration by stating that the public wants a bill for immigration reform is totally false. What the American Public wants is border security before anything else.

Unless the House Republicans stand firm on border security the Republican Party faces an electoral disaster in November. And House Republicans are to the first ones who will face the voters’ wrath.

House members should consider this; despite all of the political spin coming out of the Senate the American Public wants the border secured, end of story! If the Senate fails to relinquish on this point wouldn’t it be better at election time for Republican House members to run on a position against the Senate’s proposal for amnesty and wide open borders. This could transfer the backlash vote against the Senate where it belongs.

McCain is on a mission to disenfranchise Conservative voters from the Republican Party because he knows if they vote in the 2008 Presidential Primaries his chances of getting the Republican nomination are slim and none.

How comforting to know that 12% of the population here is the main concern over the entire populations security.

The really sad thing is that a portion of that 12% doesn’t agree with the Senate bill either.
