Sunday’s New York Times report claiming that a 2006 national intelligence estimate, or NIE, concludes that “the Iraq war has made the overall terrorism problem worse,” according to one of the unidentified “intelligence officials” cited in the article. This is supposedly because the war has provoked radical Islamists to hate America even more than they already did before they hijacked airplanes and flew them into buildings. If this is the kind of insight we pay our spooks to generate, we’re in more trouble than we thought.
The White House responded yesterday by saying the full NIE on “Trends in Global Terrorism” is far more nuanced and complex than the press reports claim. Spokesman Tony Snow added that one “thing the reports do not say is that war in Iraq has made terrorism worse.” So here’s our suggestion for President Bush: Declassify the entire NIE. SideBear: Does Senator Durbin (D-IL) and his party really think that if we were not in Iraq that the terrorists would be watching American Idol on TV? Have they forgotten the many acts of terrorism long before the Iraq War?
What scares the hell out of me is that we have people in power running our National Security that have ‘no clue’ on how to deal with the terrorist. “Maybe if we where just nice to them they will leave us alone,” is not plan, it is a recipe for national suicide.
I find it mind-boggling that one selective leak from a report which the White House says was taken out of context and the liberals start their hand wringing and go into their ‘cut and run’ mode.
The total ineptness of the Democratic Party to comprehend and being able to deal with the threats we face in the world is why they do not deserve to hold any positions of power.
