Political Quote of the Day…

“There is no one in the White House who has the nerve to tell the president that he should be worried when Democrat Sen. Harry Reid is more enthusiastic about his nominee than the editors of National Review.” —Linda Chavez

Liberal lament….”Oh No! not Alito” by the Bear

Probably the most inspiring statement I head this morning was from Senator Minority Leader Harry Reid, who warned President Bush not to pick Judge Samuel Alito as his Supreme Court nominee.
When ’Dirty Harry’ doesn’t like someone for the nomination, conservatives can take it like music to their ears. Right now Uncle Teddy and the Senior [...]

A Mulligan on Miers by the Cowboy

Some years ago, a good friend asked me to be the best man at his wedding. The problem was, I wasn’t sure he was making the right decision, and several of our mutual friends had already expressed similar doubts to me in private. So I sat him down and told him the truth. What else [...]

Fitzgerald’s Words by the Bear

In his news conference Special Prosecutor Fitzgerald used words about Scooter Libby like, ‘He lied’ and ‘He made false statements.’ The way these statements are phased one would assume the man was proven guilty before his trial.
Should not Fitzgerald have said something along these lines, “The Government will prove in court that he made false [...]

Volcker panel cites French, Russian firms By Betsy Pisik

NEW YORK — Russian and French firms dominated the list of companies that made nearly $2 billion in illicit payments to Saddam Hussein’s regime in order to win contracts under the Iraq oil-for-food program, according to a massive new report released yesterday in a U.N.-approved inquiry.
More than half the companies [...]

Scooter Libby evidently lied

to the FBI and the grand jury about how and when he learned that Valerie Plame worked at the CIA, which he shouldn’t have done. But the indictment strikes me as pretty lame. There apparently was no underlying crime, so it’s a mystery to me why Libby should have lied.
The Libs have to be disappointed, [...]

Spare us the in-your-sleep moralizing By Victor Davis Hanson

To paraphrase the ancient Greeks, it is easy to be moral in your sleep. Abstract ethics or soapbox lectures demanding superhuman perfection mean little without deeds.
Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch and other global humanitarian groups recently expressed criticism over the slated trial of the mass murderer Saddam Hussein. Such self-appointed auditors of moral excellence were [...]

Governor faults White House over rebuilding Michael Depp

Louisiana Gov. Kathleen Blanco, flanked by veteran Democratic activists and a union leader, criticized the Bush administration on Saturday for allowing hurricane rebuilding contracts to go to out-of-state firms and low-wage workers.
Speaking to a rally of about 1,000 union members and activists from the steps of the state Capitol, Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton also [...]

From a Historical Perspective, Things Just Aren’t So Bad

So — and this will surprise you, because it sure shocked me — happy days are here again.
We’re living in an era of tranquility. Peace reigns. Sympathy and trust abounding, if you know what I mean. Look skyward: The moon is in the seventh house, and Jupiter aligns with Mars.
I know this not because [...]

Darwinian Democrats By Robert Stacy McCain

The current federal trial over how science should be taught in Dover, Pa., schools is the latest chapter of an old story — and I don’t mean Darwin vs. the Bible. No, this is a story about Democrats vs. democracy.
The most important fact about the case is this: On Nov. 4, [...]
